Survey Title

Physicians’ Perceptions of the Impact of an Extended-Dose Pack versus Regular Pack on Adherence to Inhaled Maintenance Medication in Asthma and COPD: A Cross-Sectional Survey

Background

Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are chronic respiratory diseases that often require long-term treatment with inhaled maintenance medications. The effectiveness of treatment depends not only on the use of appropriate medication and correct inhaler technique but also on consistent adherence to the prescribed treatment. For patient convenience, pharmaceutical companies in India also offer inhaled medications in extended-dose packs, such as dry powder inhaler (DPI) capsule packs containing a greater number of capsules and pressurized metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) containing a greater number of inhaler puffs, while keeping the cost per unit the same.

Routine clinical practice has not adequately studied the perceived impact of the Extended-Dose Pack on adherence to inhaled maintenance therapy.
Therefore, we are conducting this survey to evaluate physicians’ perceptions regarding patient adherence to inhaled maintenance therapy, reasons for non-adherence, the potential benefits of the Extended-Dose Pack, and patient characteristics that may influence the choice of an Extended-Dose Pack compared with a Regular Pack.

CREST would like to invite you to participate in this survey, which will be conducted among approximately 500 chest physicians and consultant physicians across India who have been prescribing both the Extended-Dose Pack and the Regular Pack for at least six months. You have been selected through purposive sampling from a predefined list of eligible physicians.
