<h2>ABOUT ROAD</h2>
|

Refresher course on Obstructive Airways Diseases (ROAD) which was
|
|
initiated by the Chest Research Foundation (CRF), Pune has been helping physicians understand the nuances of diagnosis and management of Obstructive Airways Disease (ODs) since 2004. More than 120 ROAD programmes conducted since its inception have helped more than 6000 doctors understand the correct practices in Obstructive Airways Diseases. ROAD not only updates about the latest guidelines in asthma and COPD but the clinical expertise and pearls from the faculty making it a unique educational experience for practical implementation in the clinics and helps physicians add a differential to their practice for better patient outcomes. <br><br>

The ROAD is now being taken ahead by the Chest Research and
|
|
Training Private Limited (CREST), Pune in an electronic format.
|
|
Preceded by 04 videos on the clinical implications of the burden, risk
|
|
factors and pathogenesis of Asthma and COPD, ROAD will also give
|
|
physicians an opportunity to interact with the expert faculty via an
|
|
online platform on two consecutive days over about 2 and a ½ hours
|
|
sessions conveniently timed on a weekend. ROAD will also give
|
|
physicians an opportunity to discuss their own challenging cases with
|
|
experts as well as learn from cases presented by their peers in the
|
|
"Bring your challenging cases to the forum' session which will be
|
|
planned a month after the ROAD sessions.
|
|

<p class="wow fadeInUp" data-wow-delay=".4s">India leads the world in the prevalence of Chronic Obstructive
|
|
Pulmonary Disease, ranks second only to China in deaths due to COPD
|
|
and is fast overtaking. <br><br>
|
|
With 37.8 million asthmatics, India contributes 11.16% to the prevalence of asthma globally. However, an alarming fact is that 43.6% of all global deaths due to asthma occur in India. Most of these deaths, which are largely avoidable, occur in adults which means that we are not doing enough to treat our cases of Asthma appropriately. <br><br>
|
|
The focus of practice for physicians in India today is cardio-metabolic,
|
|
neurology or endocrine and understandably so. However at 83.8
|
|
million, the combined burden of Asthma and COPD in our country is
|
|
far more than the burden of ischemic heart diseases or diabetes (16.5 and 67.8 million respectively)*. Moreover, COPD is a common
|
|
co-morbid with cardiac diseases and it is important to identify it and manage it correctly for better patient outcomes. It has been documented that the CV disease outcomes improve if the COPD is treated appropriately. Thus,an adequate holistic approach to patients is the need of the day today. <br><br>
